Piping Royal Icing
Maddie GartmannDescription
Maddie begins with her piping icing in a piping bag before cutting a small hole in the tip of the bag and practicing her piping on a sheet of white paper. Maddie then demonstrates a helpful method of holding the icing bag. She holds the knot at the top of the bag between her thumb and index finger, using the rest of her hand to gently squeeze the bag as she works. Resting her forearm on the table when possible helps give her more control when piping.
With her piping bag and sheet of paper ready to go, Maddie begins piping a variety of patterns:
– Straight lines
– Zigzags
– Loops
– Squares
– Circles
– Hearts
With each pattern, she demonstrates her tips and tricks to make them look their best. Remember—mastering the use of royal icing is a skill that takes a little bit of practice, but with a bit of patience, you’ll be a pro in no time!
